Intermediate Umpires

Futures Category

Softball Ontario introduced the Futures Category, a new category within our well-established Junior Development Program. It is geared towards the development and retention of our Intermediate Umpires. It gives these umpires the ability to "fast track" through the certification process. In order to be eligible to be placed in this category, and individual:

  • Must be 15-18 years of age
  • Must have attended an Intermediate Clinic in the previous year and current year (two consecutive years)

Members of the Futures category will receive:

  • Softball Canada affiliation
  • Full Level 1 certification
  • The ability to purchase a Level 1 manual
  • Full registration status
  • Full carded status upon successful completion of Level 1 exam (allows umpires to officiate at Provincial Championships!)

Intermediate Stair-Step

The “Stair- Step” program allows an Intermediate umpire an opportunity to become a carded official for a reduced fee. This permits individuals to officiate at Provincial Championships!

  • Must be under 19 years of age
  • Must have taken an Intermediate Clinic or passed the Intermediate Take Home exam in the previous year

The fee of $27.00 you will be able to enjoy the benefits of being a registered and carded Softball Ontario umpire. The fee includes the following:

  • Softball Canada National Umpire Level 1 Exam
  • Softball Ontario E-Publications
  • An opportunity to work Softball Ontario Member Associations’ Provincials
  • On-Field Evaluations

Intermediate Take-Home Exam

The "Take-Home Exam Program" is geared towards the intermediate umpire that has taken an Intermediate Umpire Clinic in the previous three years and cannot or does not want to attend another Intermediate Clinic but still wishes to refresh themselves with the rules for the season. For a fee listed below you will be able to enjoy all the benefits of a clinic participant, but instead of taking a clinic you can write a 50-question exam.

  • Must be 18 years old or younger
  • Must have taken an Intermediate Umpire clinic in the previous three years

The fee is $65.00 and includes the following:

  • A 50-question exam
  • Junior and Intermediate Clinic Manuals
  • Accident and liability insurance (same as clinic participants receive)
  • Intermediate Certificate (upon passing the exam with a 70%)
  • A Softball Canada Rulebook (same as clinic participants)
