Canadian Championship Application Form for 2018 Fast Pitch

Canadian Championship Application Form For 2018 Slo-Pitch

Fast Pitch Canadian Championship Application Process - revised 2016

Due to the large number of qualified umpires registered and carded through Softball Ontario, and with only (10) ten Fast Pitch Canadian Championships, it is unreasonable to expect successive appointments to Canadian Championships in back to back years.  There could be at least a three to four year development period between Fast Pitch Canadian Championship appointments.

An umpire wishing to apply for one of the ten (10) Fast Pitch Canadian Championships must complete the application form in its entirety found in this information package.  The complete application must be received by October 1 of the current year.

The ten (10) fast pitch Canadian Championships have been grouped into four (4) pools:

  • Pool A - U14 Girls, U14 Boys, U16 Girls and U16 Boys
Full Level 3 - Clinic PLUS OFE 3B or 3A required for appointment.
  • Pool B - U18 Boys, U18 Girls and U21 Women
Level 4 clinic PLUS OFE 3B or 3A required.
  • Pool C - U21 Men and Senior Women
Full Level 4 - Clinic PLUS OFE L4 required.
  • Pool D - Senior Men
Full Level 4 - Clinic PLUS OFE L4 required
ALSO two (2) Previous Championships at U18 or above required.
  • All Pools - Umpires must score a minimum of 16/44 in Selection Process to Qualify to attend a Canadian Championship

RECOMMENDED:  Attach a copy of your most recent On-field evaluation (OFE) to this Application form.

Eligibility criteria for the Canadian Championships are governed by Softball Canada guidelines and ODC expectations

For Men's, Women's, and U21 Men's Fast Pitch Canadian Championships, as well as Men's and Master Men's 35+ Slo-Pitch Canadian Championships, consideration will be given only to those umpires who are Level IV certified.  For all other Canadian Championships, consideration will be given only to those umpires who are Level III certified.
Exception: For U14 and U16 events (Pool A), Level 2 umpires MAY be considered for extra appointments.

Please visit http://www.softball.ca/english/programs/canadian-championships/national-teams/umpiring/policy/national-umpires.html for more details.

Please Note: If you apply in both Fast Pitch and Slo-Pitch disciplines, both Canadian Championship applications will be deemed ineligible.

The Softball Ontario office will send a confirmation for each application received by email if an email address is provided or by a letter if an email address has not been provided.  The applications are forwarded to the Fast Pitch Umpire Committee and the Zone Umpire-in-Chief for evaluation.  The ZUIC will rank each applicant from their zone and present their determination to the Fast Pitch Committee.  At the conclusion of the presentations, the Fast Pitch Umpire Committee will determine the selections for appointment to each Canadian Championship and the alternates.

All appointments are presented to the Softball Ontario Board of Directors for Board approval.  Successful appointees will be contacted to confirm their selection and the list of appointees will be submitted to the National Director of Umpires.

All umpires who apply for a Fast Pitch Canadian Championship will receive a personal response by email regarding the status of their application.

If, after following the selection process, the FP Umpire Committee is unable to fill all available FP Canadian Championship appointments, the FP PUIC will seek recommendations from the FP ZUICs inorder to assist in the selection process.

The selection of umpires to Fast Pitch Canadian Championships is done on a yearly basis. The application process begins each April for the selection of umpires to the following year's Canadian Championships.

Slo-Pitch Canadian Championship Application Process - revised 2016

An umpire wishing to apply for one of the two Slo-Pitch Canadian Championships must complete the application form in its entirety found in this information package.  The complete application must be received by the Softball Ontario office by October 1st of the current year.

Due to the large number of qualified umpires registered and carded through Softball Ontario, and with only two slo-pitch Canadian Championships, it is unreasonable to expect successive appointments to Canadian Championships in back to back years. You can expect at least a three to four year development period between Slo-Pitch Canadian Championship appointments.

The Softball Ontario office will send a confirmation for each application received by email if an email address is provided or by a letter if an email address has not been provided. The applications are then copied onto the Slo-Pitch Umpire Committee. The Slo-Pitch Umpire Committee then seeks input and recommendations from the Zone Umpires-in-Chief. The Slo-Pitch Umpire Committee then vote on who will be the selections for the each Championship and the alternates. The Provincial Umpire-in-Chief (PUIC) will present the selected list to the Softball Ontario Board of Directors for approval. The PUIC will contact the appointed and alternate umpires to confirm their selection. The PUIC will also submit the list of appointed umpires to the National Director of Umpires. All umpires who apply for a Slo-Pitch Canadian Championship will receive a personal response by mail regarding the status of their application.

If after following the above selection process the SP Umpire Committee is unable to fill all available SP Canadian Championship appointments, the SP Umpire Committee will seek recommendations from the SP ZUICs or utilize a successful on-field evaluation from an elite tournament to fill these positions.

The selection of umpires to Slo-Pitch Canadian Championships is done on a yearly basis. The application process begins each April for the selection of umpires to the following year's Canadian Championships. The SP Selection Criteria for Canadian Championships - Expectations and Rubric is used in scoring each umpire application.

Eligibility: Minimum of SP CASA Level 3 and Softball Canada Level 4 Theory Clinic at the Time of Application.  Umpires Must Have Attended an Umpire Certification Clinic in the Last Two Years.

There is a one (1) year waiting period between Canadian Championships for either Fast Pitch or Slo-Pitch games.
