Description: Scott has taken a deep look into common faults in young hitters and will present different strategies to fix these issues.

Scientific look at representative task design (Practice design and how people learn)

Keynote Speaker:

Dr. Nick Wattie

Assistant Prof & Sport Scientist at UOIT

Dr. Nick Wattie earned a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education (BPHE) and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Life Sciences from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, before completing his master's degree in the School of Kinesiology and Health Science at York University in Toronto, Ontario. With the funding support of a Carnegie Centenary Bursary and a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Doctoral Fellowship, he went on to complete his doctorate at Leeds Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom. After earning his PhD, he returned to Canada to carry out a postdoctoral fellowship at York University.

Topic 1- Arm health/proper activation
Topic 2- Defensive skills- gaps and progressions

Melissa Basilio

Assistant Coach / Manager - Women's National Team Program

Melissa Basilio has been a part of the Softball Canada Women’s National Team Coaches Staff since 2009. Melissa attended 4 years at University of Delaware and was named to the Second Team All-Colonial Association in 2002 & 2003 with honours. Those same years she was co-captain. Melissa was an outstanding defensive third baseman and was known for her quick glove and strong arm. Her Coaching resume includes: Winthrop Eagles, Assistant Coach with the Markham Tigers and Assistant Coach with St. Mary's Catholic Secondary School.

Kiri Langford

Strength and Conditioning Coach with Canadian Sport Institute

Kiri Langford is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).  After finishing her Honours B.Sc. specializing in Kinesiology and Health Sciences at York University in 2015, Kiri attended LIT-Limerick Institute of Technology in Ireland, to complete her Masters in Strength and Conditioning.  For her dissertation, she conducted a motor learning study investigating video analysis and the hockey shot.
