Call for Applications: Slo-Pitch DUICs and ZUICs

Softball Ontario is seeking applications for two (2) Slo-Pitch Deputy Umpire-in-Chief positions, and five (5) Slo-Pitch Zone Umpire-in-Chief positions.

Slo-Pitch Deputy Umpire-in-Chief (2 positions)

  • Be a member of the Slo-Pitch umpire committee and attend all meetings.
  • To recommend, in consultation with the Slo-Pitch Provincial Umpire-in-Chief and Deputy Umpires-in-Chief umpires for all Slo-Pitch Canadian Championships as required.
  • Assist in the selection process for Slo-Pitch Zone Umpires-in-Chief
  • Liaison with Softball Ontario's Program Coordinator
  • Develop and administer a recruitment and retention program for the Slo-Pitch umpire program.
  • Oversee an aspect of the Slo-Pitch Umpire Program ie. clinic, tournaments, evaluations etc.
  • Assist in the coordination of the Softball Ontario Umpires Instructor Training Program for Slo-Pitch umpires.
  • Assist in the administration of the Slo-Pitch Umpires Travel Fund as approved by the Slo-Pitch Provincial Umpire-in-Chief

There are two DUIC positions available. One is responsible for Clinics, and the other is responsible for Evaluations. The successful candidate will be an active Slo-Pitch umpire, who is registered with Softball Ontario. He/she should have experience as a Zone Umpire-in-Chief, as well as a minimum Slo-Pitch umpire certification of Level 3. A minimum of five years of experience as a Slo-Pitch umpire is considered an asset.

Slo-Pitch Zone Umpire-in-Chief: Positions available for Zones 2, 4, 5 East, 6, 8.

  • Communicate with the Slo-Pitch Umpire Committee Provincial UIC and Deputy UICs
  • Assign working umpires for Softball Ontario Member Association Tournaments as requested
  • To attend meetings at the request of the Slo-Pitch Provincial Umpire-in-Chief
  • To promote the Softball Ontario Umpires Program and encourage registration and development
  • To meet with coaches and local softball associations for clarification of Slo-Pitch rules as requested
  • Submit yearly reports to the Softball Ontario office
  • Monitor SP umpire evaluations in their zone
  • Appoint SP evaluators to SP tournaments in their zone
  • Appoint SP instructors to SP Softball Ontario umpire clinics within their zone
  • Appoint SP tournament UICs for SP tournaments within their zone

The successful candidate will be an active Slo-Pitch umpire, registered with Softball Ontario. He/she should have experience as a Softball Ontario instructor/evaluator, as well as a minimum Slo-Pitch umpire certification of Level 3. A minimum of three years experience as a Slo-Pitch umpire is considered an asset.
