Softball Ontario wants to kindly remind all local Softball Associations that time is running out to sign up for the new CANpitch Program with participant fee discounts and facility assistance available only until March 31, 2010!
This is a great opportunity for all local Softball Associations to save their Association money by utilizing the facility assistance as well as save their members money on pitching lessons. This program isn’t like any other clinicians training program- all of the CANpitch instructors are nationally trained through Softball Canada, which ensures a nationally branded program for all participants involved.
The CANpitch Program is all about the quality of instruction for all of our participants. Focused on teaching the pitchers the fundamentals at a more personal level, each participant will have more one on one time per hour session than at their local associations open pitching clinics. The ratio of participant to instructor is 6 to1, which will allow for more assistance and focus with each participant. Softball Ontario’s Umpire Program is happy to announce they are hosting a Softball Canada Level 3 Umpire clinic in St. Catharines, ON and Belleville, ON schedule for May 1-2, 2010.
This two day course is essential for any Ontario Umpire aspiring to advance in their Umpire career. An action packed course, the Level III clinic may cover topics including pre-game conferences; appeal plays and ejections/removals. Softball Ontario top notch Umpire Instructors will be on hand to instruct these clinics.
In order to attend the Level III Umpire clinic, you must be a full certified Level II Official with a minimum of two (2) years experience as a Level II official. Softball Ontario must recruit a minimum of fifteen (15) participants two (2) weeks prior to the clinic in order to host the 2010 Softball Canada Level III Umpire clinic, so apply today! If the minimum number of participants is not reached by the two week deadline the clinic will be cancelled. The CANpitch Program is Softball Canada’s national pitching program created to provide a nationally standardize curriculum based on Softball Canada’s Long-Term Player Development framework to introduce and develop the skill of windmill pitching to children.

Over the past several months, Softball Canada's Officiating Development Committee has concentrated its efforts on the biennial Blue Convention, which will take place from April 1-4, 2010 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Umpires from across Canada and the United States travel to this event every time it is held, as it provides an excellent lineup of workshops and opportunities for socializing and networking among the "Blue Crew".

Softball Ontario is now accepting applications for the position of Softball Ontario Pitching Committee Chairman. The successful candidate will be an active part in Softball Canada’s ground breaking National Pitching Program, which is a long-term player development program for pitchers. New players being introduced to pitching by highly trained Regional Pitching Instructors will help to increase the level of talent and competition among the younger softball athletes.

Softball Ontario is pleased to announce the re-appointment of Peter Kluszczynski of Barrie, ON as its Fast Pitch Provincial Umpire-in-Chief.
Mr. Kluszczynski is an accomplished Softball Canada Level 5 Umpire with seventeen (17) years experience. An active Softball Ontario volunteer since becoming the Junior Development Umpires Program Coordinator on the Fast Pitch Umpires Committee in 2000, Mr. Kluszczynski has also worked with Softball Ontario as Provincial Deputy Umpire-in-Chief, a Provincial Tournament Umpire-in-Chief, and as a Clinic Instructor and Evaluator. He has also instructed at Softball Ontario’s Umpire Program Instructor Training Clinic weekend and attended Member Associations’ Annual General Meetings as a representative of Softball Ontario’s Fast Pitch Umpires Program. Softball Ontario is pleased to share an exciting opportunity for Softball Coaches to have their Coach Education funded by the Quest for Gold (Q4G) Enhancement Coaching Program. The Quest for Gold Enhanced Coaching Program recognizes coaches have out-of-pocket expenses for many things. Coaches who wish to continue their training and education, or increase their knowledge and certification, can directly benefit from this bursary program.
The Quest for Gold program provides an education bursary for higher levels of professional development and training. Up to 75% of course registration fees will be reimbursed for Ontario resident coaches who pass and complete coursework.
