Softball Ontario is pleased to share that Softball Canada is placing a call for applications for three (3) Deputy Umpire-in-Chief positions on the Officiating Development Committee. The positions begin October 1, 2009. Please note that all three positions are 2 year terms.
Committee member selection shall be made according to pre-established criteria, which will include, in addition to the required skills and experience; both slo-pitch and fast pitch certified umpires, representation by population (i.e. provincial/territorial umpire registrations), gender equity, and bilingualism considerations.

The event will take place from July 22 to 26 in Oklahoma City, OK, where Canada, Japan, the United States and the United States Futures National Team will compete. Canadian Men's Slo-Pitch Team Ready for Border Battle.
(Oklahoma City, OK) The Canadian Team that will play in the second Men's Slo-Pitch Border Battle is eager to compete, and will have the opportunity to do that in the spotlight of the KFC World Cup of Softball V this weekend in Oklahoma City. The one-game showdown between Canada and the United States, scheduled for Saturday, July 24 at 4:00pm EDT on TSN, will help showcase the discipline of competitive Slo-Pitch on the North American stage.

Hall of Fame inductees included the 1949 Tip Top Tailors (Team – Ontario), Phyllis Bomberry (Athlete – Ontario), Don Bracey (Official – Ontario), the late Gil Read (Builder – Ontario), and Darren Zack (Athlete – Ontario). Darren Zack has also been accepted to the International Softball Federation Hall of Fame.

Mr. Kluszczynski is an accomplished Softball Canada Level 5 Umpire with seventeen (17) years experience. An active Softball Ontario volunteer since becoming the Junior Development Umpires Program Coordinator on the Fast Pitch Umpires Committee in 2000, Mr. Kluszczynski has also worked with Softball Ontario as Provincial Deputy Umpire-in-Chief, a Provincial Tournament Umpire-in-Chief, and as a Clinic Instructor and Evaluator. Softball Ontario would like to bring to the attention of local Softball Associations a new grant opportunity provided by the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotions. The new grant opportunity, called the Healthy Communities Fund, is part of an evolving process that will position Ontario as a leader in health promotion. The approach encourages new partnerships and strengthens existing ones, resulting in improved access to priority health promotion programs and services.

Softball Ontario is pleased to share an exciting opportunity for Softball Coaches to have their Coach Education funded by the Quest for Gold (Q4G) Enhancement Coaching Program. The Quest for Gold Enhanced Coaching Program recognizes coaches have out-of-pocket expenses for many things. Coaches who wish to continue their training and education, or increase their knowledge and certification, can directly benefit from this bursary program.
The Quest for Gold program provides an education bursary for higher levels of professional development and training. Up to 75% of course registration fees will be reimbursed for Ontario resident coaches who pass and complete coursework.
