Fast Pitch Canadian Championship Application Process - revised November 17, 2010

An umpire wishing to apply for one of the eight Fast Pitch Canadian Championships is asked to complete the application form in its entirety found in this webpage. The complete application must be received by the Softball Ontario office personnel by October 1 of the current year.

The eight fast pitch Canadian Championships have been grouped into four pools:

• Pool A - U15 Girls and U17 Girls
• Pool B - U19 Boys, U19 Girls and U23 Women
• Pool C - U23 Men
• Pool D - Senior Men and Senior Women

The following minimum fast pitch pre-requisites apply for each of the four pools:

• Pool A - Fully carded Level 3B or 3A at the time of the application.
• Pool B - Fully carded Level 3A with Softball Canada Level 4 theory clinic at the time of application.
• Pool C - Fully carded Level 4 from a previous FP Canadian Championship or a Softball Canada approved Level 4 provincial tournament (Midget and above) at the time of application.
• Pool D - Fully carded Level 4. Must have attended two previous FP Canadian Championships (excluding the Pee Wee and Bantam categories), Canada Games, Canada Cup (excluding the Futures tournament), or the 3-Nations Challenge at the time of application.

Please Note:

• Senior Men and Senior Women - Umpires can be eligible for appointment in this category after a one-year waiting period or may receive an appointment from the Fast Pitch Umpire-in-Chief.

Due to the large number of qualified umpires registered and carded through Softball Ontario, and with only eight (8) fast pitch Canadian Championships, it is unreasonable to expect successive appointments to Canadian Championships in back to back years. You can expect at least a three to four-year development period between Fast Pitch Canadian Championship appointments.

The Softball Ontario office will send a confirmation for each application received by email if an email address is provided or by a letter if an email address has not been provided. The applications are then copied and passed onto the Fast Pitch Umpire Committee and the Zone Umpires-in-Chief for evaluation. After the ZUIC has ranked the people that applied from their zone, they then present each of their prospective applicants and explain why they believe their officials should be given an opportunity to attend a Canadian Championship. At the conclusion of the presentations, the Fast Pitch Umpire Committee then vote on who will be the selections for the each Championship and the alternates. The Fast Pitch Umpire Committee will present the selected list to the Softball Ontario Board of Directors for Board approval. Softball Ontario will contact the appointed and alternate umpires to confirm their selection. Softball Ontario will also submit the list of appointed umpires to the National Director of Umpires. All umpires who apply for a Fast Pitch Canadian Championship will receive a personal response by mail regarding the status of their application.

If after following the above selection process the FP Umpire Committee is unable to fill all available FP Canadian Championship appointments, the FP Umpire Committee will seek recommendations from the FP ZUICs or utilize a successful on-field evaluation from an elite tournament to fill these positions.

The selection of umpires to Fast Pitch Canadian Championships is done on a yearly basis. The application process begins each April for the selection of umpires to the following year's Canadian Championships.

Slo-Pitch Canadian Championship Application Process - revised February 3, 2007 

An umpire wishing to apply for one of the two Slo-Pitch Canadian Championships must complete the application form in its entirety found on the Softball Ontario's webpage. The complete application must be receive by the Softball Ontario office personal by October 1 of the current year.

Due to large number of qualified umpires registered and carded through Softball Ontario, and with only two Slo Pitch Canadian Championships, it is unreasonable to expect successive appointments to Canadian Championships in back to back years. You can expect at least a three to four year development period between Slo Pitch Canadian Championship appointments.

Once the applications are received by the Softball Ontario office, they are then copied and passed on the Slo Pitch Umpire Committee. The committee then seeks input and recommendations fom the Zone Umpire in Chiefs. The Slo Pitch Umpire Committee then vote on who will the selections for each of the Championships and the alternates. The PUIC will present the selected list to the Board of Directors at the January meeting for Board approval. The PIC will contact the appointed and alternate umpires to confirm their selection. The PUIC will also submit the list of appointed umpires to the National Director of Umpires. All umpires who apply for Slo Pitch Canadian Championship will receive a personal response by mail regarding the status of their application.

The selection of umpires to the Slo Pitch Canadian Championship is done on a yearly basis. The application process begins each June for the selection of umpires to the following years Canadian Championships.
